Taking an institutional history of New Media Art as a point of departure, the book provides a multifaceted analysis of the impact of art institutions and cultural policy on contemporary artistic production. Examining how forms and mechanisms of social, political, and economic factors influence creative practices, this volume goes beyond approaches of conventional institutional critique and offers a broader historical and theoretical reflection of interdependencies among artistic practices, their institutional contexts, and strategies of conceptualization.
