The Jungle Book is loosely inspired by the children’s television series Sesame Street. While Sesame Street, a product of public broadcasting, teaches preschoolers the value of sharing or friendship, Jan Peter Hammer’s video presents an educational program for the neoliberal era: accelerating economic growth by privatizing money in maximum independence from state control. In its pursuit of the total dissolution of the welfare state, the privatization of money is an experiment in social engineering. Hammer appropriates this theme with the playful atmosphere of the puppet show, demonstrating how anti-democratic ideas can be channeled and masked as entertainment.
